The Lewis Flyers have been making preparations for months. Alicz and Kasak researched the rules, certifications and plane requirements. They created schedules for flight route and on the ground logistics. They ordered materials, mapped out the routes and practiced in the simulator since neither have flown out of the Midwest.

"Since I started flying, I always wanted to be in an air race," said Kasak. The Elmhurst resident is currently serving as a graduate assistant at Lewis University while earning a master's degree in aviation and transportation studies.
In addition to receiving funding and equipment, the team is receiving support from various members of the Lewis University community. Randy DeMik, director of aviation master's program and associate professor, is the faculty advisor of the race team. Megan Montgomery is serving as the on ground flight dispatcher. Of course, their fellow classmates studying aviation flight management, air traffic control management and aviation maintenance management have been providing tips and support as well as the faculty and staff in the aviation department.
